Micro Pilling
One of our core strength in the geotechnical construction field is to provide design and build solution for underpinning and deep foundation using Micro Piling technology. Having acquired 10 years of experience, Zeox and associate companies has been always provided high-quality and cost-effective solutions to clients.
Traditionally, micro pile is often used when there are problems with driven piles, caisson, or jacked in pile. Those problem can be associated with the nature or man-made obstructions, sensitive ground with adjacent structures, limited access/confined spaces and presence of cavity especially in limestone geology. For instance, in conventional large-diameter piles, any boring/drilling in the presence of boulders, old foundations or other obstruction is quite difficult. On the other hand even if the large boulders are removed by method of hacking or with control blasting, the time and energy require to remove the boulders before any casting the large diameter pile are much longer than casting micro pile. Therefore, it would usually be more convenient to substitute the large- diameter piles with an adequate number of micro piles, which on account of their more flexible technology, can be more easily drilled through any obstruction.
Over the years micro pile technology had been improved dramatically and it is being used very widely for many applications due to the simplicity and capability to withstand lateral force to some degree. Micropile can be made either by boring or drilling holes in soil or rock. Series of reinforcement of larger diameter or API steel pipe is inserted as a reinforcing element to the drilled hole. The number of reinforcement bars or diameter of API pipe is depending on the size of micropile. Upon inserting the reinforcement or API pipe, the drilled hole is pressure grouted from the bottom to top. Once the grout reached to top of drilled hole, some excess grout is disposed to ensure the grout is free from contamination. Likewise in conventional pile, generally micro pile is used as a compression pile, however when situation require, micro pile also can be also designed and used as a tension or anchored pile. Realising this advantage, in Zeox, tension type micro pile is widely being used as anchored pile for static pile load test. By using proper size of micropile and number of strands as a anchored pile to replace the static load, the duration require for the static pile load test is reduced significantly.
